创刊于 1949年 9月 10日的《襄阳日报》，诞生于新中国成立之际，植根于 2800多年的文化沃土。报社第一任社长为著名作家、《红旗谱》作者梁斌。历经 70年的发展，报社已初步形成了以报纸为核心，集纸质媒体、网络媒体、移动媒体、社区户外媒体为一体的“两报三刊一网十五种新媒体及一个出版社”的多业态、多介质传媒集团。
2015年以来，襄阳日报、襄阳晚报、汉江网根据中央关于媒体融合发展的指导意见，全面改版升级，初步构建起全媒体传播新格局。2015年 10月 27日，襄阳日报传媒集团正式挂牌运营，跨鄂豫陕三省的汉江流域城市党报社长（总编）联席会秘书处落户襄阳日报社，与之前落户报社的湖北省记协市州报委员会秘书处一道，成为助力襄阳新闻事业发展的“联合舰队”。进入新时代，做好新融合。襄报人面对“中国十大传播力地市党报”“中国十大影响力地市晚报”“中国新闻网络最具公信力 50强”“中国新媒体最具影响力”的成绩单，和助力汉江生态经济带和汉江流域中心城市建设的舆论引导责任，正全力通过融媒体凝聚资源，自觉承担起举旗帜、聚民心、育新人、兴文化、展形象的使命任务，努力在守正创新上实现更大作为，让党的主张成为时代强音。
Xiangyang Daily, founded on September 10, 1949, was born at the time of the founding of New China and rooted in the fertile soil of culture for more than 2,800 years. The Secretariat of the joint meeting of the president (editor-in-chief) of the city party newspapers in the Hanjiang River Valley across Hubei, Henan and Shaanxi provinces settled in Xiangyang Daily. Together with the Secretariat of the state newspaper Committee of Hubei Jixie City, which previously settled in the newspapers, it became a "joint fleet" to help the development of Xiangyang's journalism.Entering a new era, do a good job of new integration.
