　　人见人爱的鄂西土家龙船寨主的女儿阿朵，为维护本寨利益，被迫许婚权贵世家未成年人田阿宝。婚期将近之日，阿朵偶遇客家水手阿龙，二人一见倾心。因母亲有言”死也不嫁客家男”，高傲娇蛮的阿朵便以百般的戏弄与羞辱来规避和拒绝阿龙发起的爱情攻势。激情似火的阿龙以其真诚的情怀一点点消融了阿朵冰封的心防。

　　最后，在母亲的逼迫下，阿朵断然斩断情愫，走上了已定的婚嫁之路。就在迎亲路上，阿龙却如飞蛾扑火般冒死抢亲。阿朵终于为阿龙的真情感动，二人不惜以生命代价唱响真爱无敌的千古歌谣……

　　黄梅戏《妹娃要过河》的创作灵感来源于世界名曲——湖北利川民歌《龙船调》，该剧完美融合了黄梅戏的委婉清新和土家文化的粗犷豪放，女儿会、茅古斯、砍邪、哭嫁、推崖等土家风情元素的艺术提炼，使该剧极具地域气息，凄美的受情故事，温婉的黄梅声腔、恢宏的舞台呈现，使该剧热辣而时尚、唯美而震撼。

　　Duo, an adorable girl, was the daughter of the head of Tujia Dragon Boat Village in western region of Hubei Province. She was forced to marry Tian Abao, a minor from a powerful family in order to protect the interests of the village. When the wedding was approaching, Duo fell in love with Long, a sailor of Hakka ethnic group, at first sight. Duo’s mother told her to prefer death to the marriage with a man of Hakka ethnic group, so Duo pridefully and unruly ridiculed and teased Long so as to discourage him from courting her. Long, who was passionately in love, gradually won the trust and love of Duo with sincerity.

　　Unfortunately, Duo was forced by her mother to leave Long and to marry Tian Abao as previously agreed. When the bridegroom went to the Duo’s home to escort her back to the wedding, Long risked his life to take Duo back like a flying moth darting into the fire. Duo was deeply moved by the love of Long, and they proved the invincibility of true love at the expense of their lives...

　　Huangmei opera Sister to Cross the River is inspired by Dragon Boat Melody, the world-famous folk song of Lichuan City in Hubei Province. It perfectly combines the periphrastic style of Huangmei opera with the boldness and vigorousness of Tujia culture. By artistically refines folk customs of Tujia ethnic group, including the blind date of Tujia girls, Maogusi dance, the counteraction of evil force, crying marriage song, and cliff pushing, the unconstrained, fashionable, beautiful and shocking theatrical piece tells the sad and beautiful love story with periphrastic expressions of Huangmei opera and magnificent stage presentation, demonstrating strong regional features.
