　　This book consists of a study on evolution of Han folk costumes and social changes from the Ming dynasty and a study on costumes as a form of intangible cultural heritage. After the Ming dynasty was founded, the system of Han folk costumes was restored and the costumes are differentiated based on social class. After the Republic of China was founded, men were forbidden to have long hair and costumes changed too. These costume changes are not only witnesses to the changes in Chinese social customs and lifestyles, but they are also key points in studies on social development. The study on costumes as a form of intangible cultural heritage focuses on the continuation and preservation of the folk costumes that remain since ancient times, from the perspective of the evolution of costumes in the following areas: "dressing behavior", "the materials, forms, and craft of costumes", and "aesthetic standards on costumes".
