After returning to China in 1978, he lived a quiet life as a researcher and died in 2000. Mr. Xu is proficient in eight ancient and modern languages, including Sanskrit, Latin, German and French. He is the most distinguished Chinese scholar who translated Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita from Sanskrit.
